The store manager of our Orland Park store, Brian, has a history with James & Sons that began in 1987. James & Sons was his family jeweler long before that, so when he got home from military leave and wanted to propose to his girlfriend, his mom knew just the place to go. He was first introduced to Jim Sunderland Sr. and then worked with Jim Sunderland Jr. to design the most beautiful engagement ring.
His wife had just two requirements for her ring: a marquise diamond, which was super popular at the time, and yellow gold! He had a fun time picking out a beautiful ring with Jim Jr. and eventually had a custom wedding band made to fit perfectly with the engagement ring.
Brian and his wife, Janet, planned to upgrade her engagement ring and wedding band for the 20th wedding anniversary. But Brian had something up his sleeve. For their 19th wedding anniversary and in celebrating her receiving a master’s degree, Brian surprised her with a beautiful new engagement ring and wedding band set. As they were leaving for the graduation ceremony, Brian asked Janet for his ring back and she looked at him in confusion. He then presented her with a brand new Hearts On Fire three-stone engagement ring and two wedding bands. Such a cool moment! Sometimes he will catch his daughter wearing Janet’s original engagement ring and wedding band set. That’s what is so cool about jewelry: seeing it passed down from generation to generation.
Brian started working for James & Sons in 2003 at the Calumet City location and then moved to our Schererville store and quickly became the sales manager there. In January 2018, Brian was asked to be the team leader of the Orland Park, IL store and has been doing amazing work there ever since! When Brian became the sales manager in Schererville, he also went to the GIA to take classes in order to learn more about the jewelry industry. He is now an Accredited Jewelry Professional with the GIA and a GIA Diamond Graduate and a GIA Gemstone Graduate. He loves that he can teach his customers a little bit about the jewelry that they are purchasing. So, not only did they get a beautiful diamond ring, but they have knowledge about it as well.
