Ideas For Proposing In The Fall

Autumn has arrived, one of the most beautiful and enchanting of the seasons. As Winter approaches, the timing feels right to ask the question you’ve been dying to ask. So maybe you’ve got the perfect ring, but you’re struggling with how to pop the question. After all, this is one of the most significant decisions of your life, and you want it to be memorable. If you need some inspiration for your Fall proposal, don’t worry, we’ve got you!

A Cozy Autumn Picnic

Picnics are underrated when it comes to romance. Once you find a charming location, put together a delicious picnic spread and arrange the setup (don’t forget to make it look nice). We can’t tell you what to say, but we can help with the details. Forest preserves often have beautiful picnic areas that aren’t usually that crowded. Do some research to find the ideal spot near you. Illinois has some stunning locations for a picnic such as Cantigny Park, Starved Rock, and Millenium Park. Bring your filled picnic basket, a blanket, cute decor, and anything else you think would add to the moment. And don’t forget the ring!

A Fireside Dinner

A crackling fire, aged wine, delicious dinner, roses, chocolate, diamonds…need I say more? So romantic. A fireside dinner makes for a very intimate proposal. Not only is it cozy when the Fall weather gets chilly, but a fireside dinner involves so many classic romantic elements.

Hayride/Pumpkin Patch Proposal

There's no better way to embrace the spirit of autumn than by visiting a charming pumpkin patch and taking a leisurely hayride. Many pumpkin patches offer hay rides, where you can immerse yourselves in the rich, warm hues of Fall while sipping on some comforting apple cider. And perhaps, add to the experience by selecting a pumpkin together. Pumpkin patches make for an ideal setting to capture beautiful fall-themed engagement photos if you're seeking that perfect shot. Whether you choose to propose on the hayride or among the pumpkins, it doesn't get much more Fall than this.

Autumn Vacation

There are some places during the fall that are gorgeous when the leaves change. Take a trip to North Carolina and drive through the Blue Ridge Parkway with the vast array of colors, or take a hike through the Rocky Mountains National Park in Colorado where there are trails surrounded by vibrant trees. Wherever you choose to go, research when the leaves typically change color for that picturesque romantic proposal.

Dont Forget

When preparing for your Fall proposal don’t forget the essentials. Check the weather ahead of time if you are planning an outdoor proposal. Hire a photographer to capture that picture-perfect moment. Practice what you are going to say so you aren’t too nervous. Consider whether you’d rather have a public or more private proposal. And lastly and most importantly, make sure you have the ring!

If you haven’t picked out a ring yet, it’s best to begin the process as soon as possible. While we do offer engagement rings that can be taken home the day of purchase, please note that personalized or sized rings may take four to six weeks before they are ready for pickup. Head to a James & Sons location and we will help you find the perfect ring.
